Today we are streaming live from Derby Theatre.

2014 sees the staging of three prominent new adaptations of classic Greek tales by theatres across the country: The Odyssey andPenelope RETOLD at Derby Theatre; The Last Days of Troy  (a new version of The Iliad) at Manchester Royal Exchange; and Antigone  co-produced by Pilot Theatre, Derby Theatre and Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Derby Theatre would like to bring together some of the most exciting writers in contemporary theatre in a symposium to explore the ideas and approaches to their new adaptations of three Greek classics.  It will be a chance to listen, discuss and explore.  What relevance do these ancient tales have to a modern audience?  How are these classic stories being interpreted and presented by the theatre's creative teams?

Chair: Charlotte Higgins - Chief arts writer of the Guardian and classicist

On the panel:

Mike Kenny - Olivier Award-winning playwright who has adapted The Odyssey for Derby Theatre's production

Dr Emma Griffiths - Lecturer in Classics at the University of Manchester

Marcus Romer - Artistic Director of Pilot Theatre who is directing Antigone for Pilot Theatre, Derby Theatre and Theatre Royal Stratford East's production

Caroline Horton - Contemporary theatre maker and creator of  and creator of Penelope RETOLD

#PilotLive is a window into Pilot's work that you can watch from around the world. over the past few months we have streamed live from conferences, festivals and rehearsal rooms, providing live interviews with actors, poetry and monologue readings and interactive question and answer sessions, amongst other things. #PilotLive is still developing and changing as we experiment with the possibilities of live streaming, and much of what is broadcast is something of a 'work in progress'.
